Marriage trees

A question on Gardener’s Question Time a couple of weeks ago was about a tree growing out of another (I think it was a rowan growing on a pine or fir).

This is a lovely phenomenon.  It’s called inosculation, or a marriage tree or husband-and-wife tree.  I saw one on a Welsh hillside.  Here it is.  It’s a hawthorn growing out of an ash.

I love trees.

(This reminds me, I must check the health of all of our ash trees…)
