I’ve just heard Frederick Dove’s report on China and cricket on this week’s FOOC. He mentioned the Chinese women’s team, which is doing quite well, now placed at the top of the second Asian women’s division. He particularly praised the wicket keeper – who remained, however, anonymous. Once he’d given a sop to the women, he was on to talk about the much more important men’s team – which is not doing nearly so well; in fact, from what was said, they are a bit of a shower. However showery they are, Dove mentioned two of them by name, and I presume that his forthcoming programme is going to be about men’s cricket in China, rather than cricket in China.
Grrr. Women’s cricket will never achieve any parity with men’s while there is sloppy journalism and lazy sexism about.
